What You Can Expect At "My" Nursery School…

  • Top quality programs

The school-year program for 3, 4, and 5-year olds adheres to the educational standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

  • Engaging environment

The classroom has been arranged to give children easy access to toys and other materials. Children have the space to interact with their peers and adults.

  • Developmentally-appropriate lessons

Teachers provide meaningful activities that challenge children to move forward and children gain self-confidence and feel proud of their accomplishments.

  • No overstimulation

Attention and pacing are important skills for pre-schoolers to master – so our teachers plan a balanced schedule in which children don't feel rushed or fatigued.

  • Fostering of language & communication skills

Teachers talk with children, listen to their responses, and provide ample opportunities for children to interact with one another.

  • Children learn to love reading

Adults read to children every day – individually, in small groups, and as a whole class. Teachers encourage children to discuss and relate to the stories.

Key elements of the program philosophy include:

  • A safe and healthy environment for children.
  • Well-trained teachers with access to excellent teaching materials.
  • Appropriately challenging curriculum.
  • Encourage each child's sense of individual worth.
  • Developmentally sound activities.
  • Foster cognitive, emotional, language, physical, and social development.
  • Use the resources of the community to support goals (i.e. field trips).
  • Promote positive relationships.

The school year programs for three, four, and five year olds – as well as the summer camp – have been carefully crafted to encourage an interest in learning and to provide a gradual transition into the public school systems. Children are treated as individuals and encouraged to follow their own natural rate of development.

Three Year Olds

This is interesting.

This is interesting.

Available two or three mornings a week, this program is designed to help the child find their identity within their sphere of understanding and begin to develop self-confidence.

During this very rapid growth year, we concentrate on experiences encouraging small and large motor coordination as well as shape, color, and sound recognition and socialization.

Group play and games designed to improve socialization and help children learn how to relate positively to peers are key elements of the program for three year olds.

Weather permitting, children will be outside for a short time every day; during this period, they will learn to climb, ride various vehicles, and share the great outdoors with their friends. The outdoor play is often an easy place for a shy child to start to relax and communicate more easily.

Four Year Olds

Problem solving is fun

Problem solving is fun.

This age child is ready to explore the world around them and begin to reach out. The program for four year olds is available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings or afternoons; Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, or five afternoons a week.

Story time helps foster of an appreciation of the written word. In addition, the letters of the alphabet are introduced through a variety of activities. Children are encouraged to write and learn both their own address and phone number and their peers'.

Puppets, bingo, parachute, and cooking are just some of the activities used during the year to help children improve socialization and develop positive self-esteem.

Field trips are an integral part of the four year old curriculum and are designed to familiarize your child with the community. Special units of study are coordinated in class to heighten the value of these trips.

Five Year Olds

I can make this

I can make this…

Transitional five year olds can attend for three or five afternoons a week. This includes those who, due to birthday cut-off dates, will be entering public school the following year.

The five year old curriculum focuses on reinforcing prekindergarten skills – including the ABC's and number recognition – as well as helping children increase their observation skills and attention spans.

Science projects help to spark an interest in the natural world. In our drama lessons, children take part in acting out well-known stories. The art curriculum is designed to either reinforce knowledge from another lesson, or emphasize that there is not a right or wrong way to create.

Clean-up time is a child's least favorite portion of the day. But within a short period of time, each child is willingly helping out (realizing that the next activity will begin once clean-up is complete). The emphasis is on helping children understand responsibility and how to cooperate in a group to reach a common goal.
